Scrap Iron is a raw metal that can be turned into Iron in a Smelter using Coal as fuel.

In the Swamp, its primary source are Sunken Crypts. There, it can be mined from Muddy scrap piles using any pickaxe, or found inside Chests. The Swamp Key, obtained from the Elder, has to be obtained to access Sunken Crypts.
Alternatively, Muddy scrap piles can be found underground in Swamps. However, these are scarce, and ultimately yield little iron scrap. They can be located using a Wishbone or by using the Prospecting method with a Stagbreaker or Weapons with the same attack (Iron Sledge). Oozers can also rarely drop Scrap Iron with a drop rate of around 30%.
Later in the game, Iron and Copper scrap can be obtained by mining Ancient swords and Ancient armor in the Mistlands.
