Player base is an invisible area created around certain structures. The effects are:

  • Prevents creatures from spawning (both hostile and passive). This also includes creatures from events. This does not include physical spawners.
  • Prevents items from despawning after being 1 hour on the ground (unless under 2 meters of water).
  • Allows events to trigger if the player has 3 player base structures within 40 meters.

Structure with player base[]

The following structures have 20 meters of player base around them:

  • The  Artisan table has 40 meters of player base.
  • The  Forge has 20 meters of player base plus 3 additional meters per upgrade (38 meters max).
  • The  Workbench has 20 meters of player base plus 4 additional meters per upgrade (36 meters max).

Notes[]

  • Workbench radius can be used to check the covered area of a player base structure. Right-click the hammer and select workbench. A white circle is displayed on the ground to show the build radius which is also 20 meters.
  • Most player base structures are attacked on sight by hostile enemies that can path to them. The only exceptions are campfires, bonfires, and both kinds of brazier.
  • Structures that can be lit, such as campfires and torches, still provide the player base effect when they are not lit.
  • For the goal of preventing spawns:
    • Building workbenches is the easiest way to ensure there are no gaps because the effect radius is shown.
    • Standing wood torch may be the cheapest option if a large area needs to be covered.
    • Campfires are cheap, do not need to be protected from enemies, and they are small so they can be hidden from player view easier if that is desirable (such as terrain raised over it with a Hoe).
  • Player base has no effect on respawning of berries and other pickables.
  • The range of Forge, Workbench and Artisan table is briefly reduced to 20 meters when a zone is reloaded. This allows creatures to spawn within the extended player base radius shortly after a zone is reloaded.
