Carts are used to store items and transport them over distances, and are pulled under human power. The player can "attach" and "detach" themselves to the cart using the interact key to pull the cart. A player can also "detach" themselves by dodging, preferably forwards, so as not to knock over the cart.
The total weight of all the items in the cart and steepness of terrain affects how easy or hard it is to pull the cart. The cart obeys physics and can roll downhill if let go on inclined terrain. It can also be pulled while swimming.
Carts cannot be destroyed for their resources via the hammer, and can only be destroyed through damage.
Carts can both deal and receive up to 20 blunt damage when ramming into creatures, structures, or the terrain at a high speed. The damage linearly scales with the impact speed (from 3 m/s to 5 m/s). Ramming is ignored against players and fish. Ramming is checked every 0.5 seconds.
When destroyed, any contents will pop out into crate entities which the user can interact with to retrieve their belongings. The crates have 50 durability, while taking blunt, slash, pierce, fire and lightning damage, the crates are immune to other types and won't do damage when rolling. Carts are repairable using the hammer, like any other structure.
Carts do not appear to have a weight limit and has an 18 slot capacity like a player's backpack. However, if the cart is too heavy, the player will be unable to pull the cart forward.
Crafting[]
The recipe is unlocked upon discovery of Bronze nails. It is crafted with the Hammer under the Misc. tab using 20 Wood and 10 Bronze nails, and must be in range of a Workbench.
Notes[]
- Carts cannot be constructed on top of ships. However, if the player manages to drop a cart on top of a boat, the cart will effectively increase the storage capacity of the boat.
- Transporting materials with a cart requires a lot of stamina and time. For most nonmetal materials, a Portal may be a superior alternative.
- Enemies will attack and destroy a cart if they can reach it, similar to other player-constructed buildings or vessels.
- Sprinting while pulling a cart does not appear to consume additional stamina.
