Basalt bombs can be used to create small platforms when thrown into lava, which can then be used to reach Flametal ore veins. Once the deposit (usually a Lavaiathan) is reached, the Flametal ore can then be mined until it is all collected or the deposit sinks down into the lava, similar to a leviathan in the Ocean.

The basalt platform created will float in or above the lava for 30 seconds before beginning to sink into the lava at a slow rate.
